On November 30th I completed the proposed training event. The list of event that I completed after meeting with the Department Chairman to propose the training and review the Transfer of training concept were as followed:
1 Accomplished training’s logistical concerns 2 Reported to Department Chair on date and time. He accomplished advertisement of training via outlook. ***(weeks later had to revise training date due to Organization wide conflict. Reported to TRDEV professor change of plan problem) 3. Established TRDEV wiki site and made required wiki input 4. Reviewed lesson plan and made practical working version 5. Day before, went to training room and made equipment checks and did a dry run. 6. Held training Most of the events accomplished were the responsibilities that I agreed to assume during the meeting with the Department Chairman. Since I was not only giving the training but also developing the lesson plan, workbook, and support training web based worksite, I assumed a larger proportion of the workload. One of the most important things I did was a rehearsal run the day before. That helped a little with the timing. The training was experiential style lesson as it was interactive computer based with a pre established worksite. Based on needs assessment of the participant’s computer familiarity, I strategically arranged the seating so that I knew I could rely on peer mentoring as an aid to helping the students with weaker computer skills. The department Chairman did do the introduction of the training and participated in the lesson for about 45 minutes then he left due to other commitments. |

Last Friday was the last deadline I set for the participants on my project to respond to my survey asking for their feedback on the process.
I am very glad to share that I am very happy with the results! As for the questions I used on the survey, I wanted to keep it simple, so I just went straight to the point and asked the questions on our evaluation guide. Basically I asked if the participants: • were prepared for the event and told about the course objectives in advance • were told how the training would help them in the workplace • met with their supervisor/manager after the event to discuss the training outcome and goals Since the manager expressed interest in keeping the same format we used for the project in future training modules, I also introduced a question asking whether the participants liked the format e-module + group discussion. In my presentation on the 30th I will go into more detailes, but the responsed I got were very positive - the majority of the participants answered they were prepared for the training, they were told how the concepts learned could help them in their work, and training outcomes and goals were discussed. They even designed an action plan for them as team to work on and have been discussing it on the latest staff meetings. As for the format, they all like it. Some suggested that the discussions took place in smaller groups - when you have 1 hour and 15 people participating it can get difficult to everybody to have a change to express their thoughts. At this point Tony is working separately with the other sales team - I am very curious to see what responses he got. Maybe we can do some comparison/ contrast of our teams in our final presentation, since both teams have very similar characteristics. Overall, in my opinion it was a very nice project to work on. I learned a lot and I am sure so did everybody I worked with in TE. |

Just a quick update as we have completed another stage of our project!
Both of the sales teams we are working with have completed the e-module and we conducted the group discussions in partnership with the sales managers. I don't want to "steal the thunder" for your presentation in the end of November, but here are some highlights on how it went: - initially we had some technical problems getting everyone registered in the Learning Management System, to have access to the e-module. Unfortunately it is a tool not so well explored by that population. - once they gained access to the system, they engaged well in the activity - 100% of the employees on both teams took the e-learning module - both teams welcomed the group discussions, as a channel for them to highlight main points of the e-modules and how the might apply the concepts learned on their jobs As a next step, we sent out a zoomerang survey to gather the participant's feedback about how their manager acted before, during and after training. We should get the results next week. Then, I can come back and share some more. So far it has been a great experience working on this project. I also enjoy a lot working with my partner Anthony Jackson - he has been great in sharing his ideas with me and helping me to stay on track. i will post another note next week as our project develops. |
